Why It Matters
Behind every number is a name. Behind every name is a story that deserved a different ending β and got one, because people like you showed up.
Because Clean Water Changes Everything
In the villages GDP serves, clean water used to mean a 4-mile walk before sunrise β often by young girls who then missed school. One borehole well doesn’t just hydrate a community. It gives girls their mornings back. It keeps children out of hospitals. It lets mothers start small businesses instead of spending their days walking to a river. One well. Hundreds of ripples.
Because Every Girl Deserves a Lighthouse
There are over 2,000 girls on the waiting list for St. Rita Evergreen Girls School β girls who survived things no child should ever survive, waiting for a bed, a uniform, three meals, and an adult who looks them in the eye and says: you are safe now. The wait list is not a number. Each one is a child. Every dollar that moves toward St. Rita’s completion is one fewer child waiting in the dark.
Because Women Hold Communities Together
When GDP reaches a widow in Nairobi’s informal settlements with food and a listening ear, that is not charity β it is the beginning of a chain. That woman feeds her children tonight. Her children go to school tomorrow. One of them becomes a teacher. The ripple of one act of generosity travels further than any of us will ever see. That is why 5,500 women a year is not a statistic. It is a revolution in slow motion.
Because Showing Up In Person Changes You
You can read about Kenya. You can watch a video. But when you step off that van in Nyahururu or Musoli and a child looks up at you β not as a foreigner but as someone who came specifically for them β something changes in you that cannot be undone. Every GDP missions trip participant says the same thing: “I thought I was going to serve. I had no idea I was the one who would be changed.” That transformation belongs to you. It is waiting.
Because Education Is the Longest Investment
Mercy grew up in Mathare β one of Nairobi’s most challenging places to grow up in. The Evelyn S. Weatherspoon Scholarship did not just pay her school fees. It told her that someone who had never met her believed she was worth investing in. She is now in medical training. The patients she will see in her lifetime do not yet know her name. But they will be alive because someone gave $250 to the GDP Scholarship Fund.
Because Your Dollar Does Not Stay a Dollar
GDP has operated with Candid Platinum Transparency for two consecutive years. Every dollar is tracked, reported, and deployed carefully. But more than that β every dollar GDP receives in Jacksonville shows up as a meal in Mombasa, a bed at St. Rita, a counseling session in Nyahururu, a well in a drought-hit village. Your $10 does not stay $10. In East Africa, with GDP’s 35-year network, it becomes something much larger than its face value.
“None of this happens without all of us, together. Not for a single day do we take that for granted.”

The most common questions from people who are on the edge of saying yes β and just need a little more information to take the leap. Donβt see yours? Weβd love to hear from you β
Do I need prior missions experience?
Not at all. GDP welcomes people of all backgrounds β first-time travelers, seasoned missionaries, healthcare workers, teachers, students, and retirees. The only requirement is a willing heart and a desire to serve. GDP provides all orientation and preparation support.
What is the trip fee and what does it include?
Trip fees cover international flights from designated departure cities, ground transportation throughout Kenya, accommodations, meals, and all program materials. GDP provides a full cost breakdown when you register your interest β and guidance on fundraising your trip fee through friends, family, and community. Many participants fund the full fee through individual fundraising.
Is it safe to travel to Kenya with GDP?
GDP has operated in Kenya for 35 years and has deep, established trust with local communities, officials, and partners across the country. Our teams know Kenya intimately. All trips include thorough safety briefings, vetted local partners, and 24/7 GDP leadership support throughout the journey. We have taken hundreds of volunteers to Kenya safely over three decades.
What vaccinations and health preparation are needed?
GDP recommends all travelers consult a travel medicine clinic at least 6β8 weeks before departure. Common recommendations include Yellow Fever (required for entry to some areas), Typhoid, Hepatitis A & B, and malaria prophylaxis. GDP provides a detailed health preparation guide to all registered travelers, including recommended clinics and current requirements.
What cities and program sites will we visit?

Program sites included Compassionate Childrenβs Home, Good Samaritans Childrenβs Home, St. Rita Evergreen Girls School, the GDP Multiplex Center (Mombasa), and the newly commissioned Musoli Empowerment Center.
