GDP INITIATIVES
GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT, KENYA
“I have one life and one chance to make it count for something…My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can with whatever I have to try to make a difference.” That quote isn’t a slogan for us—it’s a daily decision to be present where life is hardest and hope is needed most. It’s the heartbeat of the Global Development Project (GDP) Kenya—and it’s why we show up with love, consistency, and real action.
At GDP, we believe transformation happens when people are seen, protected, and empowered—consistently. That’s why we’re on the ground, day to day, partnering with communities and leaders to build what lasts.
GDP Kenya is a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit with operational leadership in Nairobi and headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida. We work through long-standing local and international partnerships to protect vulnerable children, strengthen families, and build sustainable pathways out of poverty across Kenya.
Today, your giving is already turning into measurable impact: 590+ children are being served daily, through children’s homes and special needs care, 2,000+ people have daily access to clean water through GDP systems, and each year, 5,500+ women have been reached through empowerment programs that integrate trauma-informed care. We also support school feeding and stand with widows and families in Nairobi’s informal settlements with vital relief and care.
When you give to GDP, your generosity doesn’t sit on a shelf—it shows up in real places, with real people, creating real change. Join us as we expand what’s working and reach even more families with safety, dignity, and hope.
A Lift Up – Clean Water Project
Access to clean water is a fundamental human right and a crucial aspect of sustainable development. Unfortunately, millions of people around the world, particularly in developing countries like Kenya, lack access to safe and clean water. This is where the Global Development Project in Kenya seeks to step in. GDP Kenya is dedicated to investing in and implementing clean water projects in Kenya, with a special focus on orphanages.
Orphanages are one of the most vulnerable populations in developing countries, and access to clean water is essential for their health and well-being. Without clean water, these children are at a higher risk of waterborne diseases, which can be life-threatening. By providing access to clean water, we are not only improving their health but also giving them the opportunity to focus on their education and other activities, ultimately breaking the cycle of poverty.
Our clean water projects in Kenya involve building and rehabilitating water infrastructure, such as wells, boreholes, and water storage tanks. The impact of our clean water projects goes beyond just providing access to safe water. Having access to clean water allows communities to engage in income-generating activities, such as agriculture and small businesses, leading to economic growth and self-sufficiency.
Without question, the Global Development Project in Kenya, along with its partners, is dedicated to investing in and developing clean water projects in Kenya, with a specific focus on those who are the most vulnerable and underserved. Our goal is to ensure that every child has access to safe and clean water, improving their health, education, and overall well-being. Through our international aid Kenya projects and community development projects in Kenya, we are not only changing lives but also creating a sustainable future for the communities we so proudly serve.
St Rita Evergreen School - Turning Storms Into Second Changes
A lighthouse doesn’t stop the storm — it shows the way through it. In Nyahururu, a place whose Maasai name means “place of storms,” St. Rita Evergreen Girls School is that lighthouse: a safe, steady place for girls who’ve been caught in trauma, gender based violence, and hopelessness — and are finally being guided toward safety, learning, and healing.
St. Rita Evergreen Girls School launched on March 15, 2025 — founded by Dr. Phyllis Njoki Kagimbi — and opened its gates to 17 vulnerable girls as a first, courageous act of rescue. But Dr. Njoki didn’t want “a temporary shelter.” She wanted a lighthouse — and she sent out a passionate call for GDP’s guidance, strength, and true partnership to help build something that could hold steady through the storms. GDP embraced that call — stepping in to help, direct, support, and do what we do best: “extend love and hope” — working alongside Dr. Njoki on the ground so this sanctuary can grow in safety, healing, and education. And almost immediately, the urgency became impossible to ignore: a waiting list already exceeding 2,000 girls still hoping for the same chance to rebuild.
What makes St. Rita different is simple, rare, and deeply human: it’s trauma-informed and built for restoration. It’s described as the first school of its kind in East Africa — a haven where vulnerable girls are allowed to remain with their children while both mother and child receive care, education, and healing. One young mother said it best: “This is the first place where I felt my child and I were both wanted.”
And the results are already real. More than 40 girls (and their children) are currently being supported, and the campus has made major, measurable progress — solar lighting throughout the facility, enhanced security, computer workstations with internet/Wi-Fi, comprehensive classroom supplies, and upgraded living essentials that make a girl feel safe enough to learn again. GDP has returned with hands-on support and committed oversight — and you can feel it in the words: “Students are safer, classrooms hum with learning.”
But this success story is still at the beginning. The vision is to expand on-campus capacity and services and increase direct support to 150–200 girls annually, while continuing to strengthen counseling, education, and vocational pathways — and ensuring St. Rita girls step into growth opportunities like GDP’s Youth Summit and Women’s Empowerment gatherings. Here’s how you can help right now: (1) Give to the St. Rita initiative (one-time or monthly), or (2) share the story so the waiting list becomes a welcome list.
