Hope is Needed…‘Project of Hope’ is the Answer!
The slums of Nairobi, Kenya are home to over 2.5 million people, many of whom face daily struggles with high levels of poverty, hardship, crime, violence, and lack of access to basic resources. Many of the residents live in makeshift homes made of corrugated iron sheets, wooden poles, and mud, and have limited access to clean water and sanitation. Healthcare is also a challenge. There is only 1 public health facility for every 30,000 residents.
One of the most devastating consequences of living in the slums, is the impact of violence on women and children. Children are often exposed to violence at a young age, whether it be in their homes or on the streets and are orphaned due to the violence, leaving them vulnerable and without proper care. The women face high levels of violence, including domestic abuse and sexual assault. Women and child trafficking is at an all-time high. Mathare and Kawangware are two of the largest slums in Nairobi, with a combined population of over 600,000 people. These communities are home to a number of orphanages and community centers that provide limited support and limited resources for children and families in need. With the need being so tremendous, many of the orphanages and community centers quickly become overwhelmed.

BREAKING THE STIGMA OF DISABILITIES
The challenge GDP faces in empowering special needs children in Africa, is breaking the stigma surrounding disabilities. Children with special needs are often stigmatized and excluded from society. In many instances, because of traditional beliefs and a lack of educational awareness, these precious children are viewed as demonized, cursed, or “strange”. These children are immediately labeled which can lead to a lack of access to education, healthcare, social interaction, and other basic needs. GDP and other organizations are working tirelessly to break this stigma and empower special needs children in Africa through social awareness and community education.Making A Real Difference and Bringing Hope!
GDP is taking some very bold steps! We’re going on-site, hands on, into the places where living conditions and life has become desperate, and where help is needed, beginning in the slum areas of Nairobi! Our goal is to begin the groundwork of restoring and rebuilding homes for Special Needs Children and Orphans. Our hope is to build a fully furnished Special Needs Therapy Center, dorms for the children to have a safe and comfortable place to live and refurbishing 6 classrooms. GDP will also be providing means of transportation for the special needs children and additional new wheelchairs. Not only will GDP be refurbishing and building new dorm, but also furnishing them with new beds and furnishings. GDP will also be refurbishing the entire infrastructure to protect the children from the rain, cold, and heat, and provide a comfortable living space. GDP is going one huge leap further! We’re building 100,000 sq ft Women’s Development Project, Youth, and Community Center!! Again, let’s make a difference!
The $50,000 Project of Hope
Initiative Begins, Now!
We’re on a mission to change things! We’re on a mission in some small way, to break the stigma by saying, ‘these children are precious, and deserve the attention, care, and comfort that we can possibly give them! They need and deserve, our help!!’ But we can’t do this alone! We need your help! And there are many ways that you can help!
