In Nyahururu, Kenya—a name derived from a Maasai word meaning “storm”—a powerful transformation is underway. The Global Development Project (GDP) has partnered with St. Rita Evergreen Girls School to provide sanctuary, healing, and education to young girls and teenage mothers who have endured unimaginable trauma. These brave girls, many as young as 12, have faced gender-based violence, early forced marriage, and abandonment. Yet within this storm, GDP and its partners are creating a peaceful refuge where hope blossoms and lives are rebuilt. Through direct engagement on the ground, GDP is helping to expand the school’s capacity, improve infrastructure, and offer essential medical and trauma counseling services that empower these girls to reclaim their futures.
GDP’s commitment to St. Rita goes beyond immediate relief. By supplying classrooms with vital equipment, hiring additional staff, and establishing trauma-informed care, GDP is fostering an environment where healing and learning go hand in hand. The collaboration with founder Dr. Phyllis Njoki Kagimbi ensures a hands-on approach that addresses the complex needs of these vulnerable girls. Together, we are not just offering education—we are restoring faith, dignity, and the power to dream again.
Looking ahead, GDP is excited to announce plans to build its own dedicated St. Rita Facility in Nyahururu. This future center will significantly expand the reach and impact of the project, providing even more space, resources, and specialized care to girls escaping trauma and hardship. By establishing a permanent home for the St. Rita Initiative, GDP aims to create a sustainable sanctuary that nurtures resilience and transforms lives for generations to come. This bold vision embodies the spirit of Nyahururu itself—finding calm and strength in the eye of the storm. There is already a waiting list of over 2000 young ladies that so desperately need our help!
