GDP’s Women Empowerment Movement – From Struggle to Strength
Women in East Africa face tremendous challenges that limit their opportunities and hold back entire communities from reaching their full potential. Despite making up nearly half the population, women earn up to 40% less than men and occupy fewer than 25% of formal jobs in the region. Even more alarming, nearly 40% of women experience gender-based violence, which impacts their physical and mental well-being. These staggering statistics highlight the urgent need for powerful women empowerment initiatives that can break down barriers, spark economic independence, and foster leadership in every community across East Africa.
The Global Development Project (GDP) is answering this call with dynamic, impactful programs designed to uplift and empower women at every level. Through quarterly Women Empowerment Summits, hundreds of women gather to gain practical skills in entrepreneurship, leadership, and financial literacy while building networks of support and inspiration. These summits are complemented by regular women’s meetings that create safe spaces for ongoing mentorship, collaboration, and collective problem-solving. GDP’s holistic approach ensures that empowerment is not just a moment but a sustained movement that fuels confidence, resilience, and community change.
A standout feature of GDP’s work is its trauma training programs, which provide essential tools for self-care and caring for others in environments where gender-based violence and trauma are all too common. These trainings equip women with strategies to heal, grow stronger, and become advocates within their communities. With hundreds of women completing these transformative programs every year, GDP is igniting a thriving movement that is reshaping lives and empowering a new generation of women across East Africa. Join us in supporting this unstoppable wave of change!
