June 2023 GDPK Newsletter

Many wonderful greetings to each of you! We want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank each of you for your encouragement, love, and support for what we’re trying to accomplish through the Global Development Project – Kenya. This quarter we’re sharing highlights from our trips in 2022 and the most recent trip in April 2023.

Children in Need

We take two trips annually to Kenya and most recently, during our trips in 2022 and April 2023, we spent time at a few of the children’s homes we directly support (The Children’s Dream Home and The Good Samaritan Children’s Home in Nairobi). We were fortunate to partner with several families and Little Hands, Big Hearts to meet the needs of these children. These trips were so special because we witnessed first hand the impact of our efforts. In the last year, we’ve been able to support several key initiatives:
  • Installing additional safety equipment for the younger children that are now being accepted into the Good Samaritan Children’s Home;
  • Providing new clothing and food supplies; and
  • Upgrading the educational departments with new laptops and internet connection, which we will sponsor every month
One of the beautiful moments came when we delivered the new clothing and just spent time engaging and showing love to the kids. One of the teachers and caretakers for the kids told us that there was one 6-year-old boy that had been dropped off there 3 years ago and they’d never seen him smile. But when he received what would be his first ever new piece of clothing, his whole countenance changed! Wow! We took the time to just sit with him, laugh, play, and just be there. That alone made the trip worthwhile!

Caring for the Caretakers

Unfortunately, these childrens’ homes receive very little outside funding. When funds are scarce, the teachers receive very little, and sometimes, no compensation, yet continue to care for the children with so much love. On our most recent trip, we presented monetary Appreciation Gifts to the teachers and caretakers who selflessly care for the children. We’re expanding our support for these childrens’ homes to include a program to care for the teachers and caretakers. For just $615 a month, we can take care of all 8 caretakers on a monthly basis. Please join us in making this a monthly commitment to those who deserve and need our support to continue doing what is so desperately needed!

Next Mission’s Trip to Kenya – November 2023

So much is happening! Please keep us in your thoughts as we prepare for another trip in November 2023. This trip will once again include time spent in each of the children’s homes that we support in Nairobi, as well as visiting the building project taking place in Mombasa. We’ll spend time ministering in a leadership conference in Eldoret, and while there, also host a Women’s Empowerment Seminar. And once again, thank you so much for all you do to help and support what is happening!
